At the beginning of Summer 2011 I was feeling very ambitious and motivated to set goals and take on new projects. I finished up my human resources class (with an A), but instead of continuing on at BCIT I finally decided to pursue photography as a career. Crazy, I know. I had no idea what to expect. So I naturally wrote out a (massive) to do list in an effort to organize my thoughts, ideas, fears, budget, and other business logistics.

To keep things even, I also threw in a few personal goals, and posted them on the blog… this way, I would have to stick to them, no ifs ands or buts. It was foolproof. Well, here we are… more than half way through the summer the progress on my personal goals is not quite as I had hoped it might be. I haven’t failed miserably… but I haven’t exactly exceeded expectations either. Lets break it down…

Lets start with goal number one. I have spent lots of time taking photos and editing them this summer. Probably more so than any other time in my life. Not all of the photos have been strictly for personal enjoyment, but I have enjoyed every moment nonetheless. Some amazing opportunities have come my way… and I have learned so, so, so much. I feel very lucky and grateful for my photography experiences this summer.

The second goal hasn’t been so bad. As I realized my schedule simply doesn’t leave time for reading, I bought one of Seth Godin’s books on audio book to listen to while commuting to and from work. The book (or should I say CD?) is called Linchpin, and it came highly recommended by Jamie Delaine, when I attended her photography workshop back in June. Admittedly this purchase was a last ditch effort to achieve my goals, but I have to say it’s been great! Seth Godin has a very unique perspective and gives lots of great information and ideas for any business.

And finally, when it comes to my third personal summer goal… I would have to rate my progress as poor. Hopefully as the busy summer months fade away I will find more time and motivation for weight lifting, but for now I need an extension…

Hope you’re all having a great week so far! Happy Tuesday!
